The classic case is a gas oven that will not light. The hot-surface ignitor weakens with age and draws less current, so the safety valve never opens. The bake burner never lights, and the valve takes the blame. We measure the ignitor first. Common repairs we handle.
- Gas oven that will not light. We check the ignitor's current draw against spec, since a weak ignitor can still glow while failing to open the safety valve. If it is weak we replace it, then test the valve and run a full bake to make sure the flame holds.
- Simmer burner that will not hold low. A clogged simmer port or the wrong orifice leaves a burner that sears fine but blows out or runs yellow on low. We clean the ports, confirm the orifice size matches your gas type, and set the low flame so it stays lit.
- Built-in column running long and sweating at the door. On heavy Viking column doors the hinge can sag until the gasket stops sealing along one edge. We adjust the door, replace a torn gasket, and check the evaporator fan so the column stops running nonstop.

Usually. Viking ranges are built heavy, and the parts that wear first (ignitors, electrodes, hinges, springs) are well supported. We give you a written repair quote so you can weigh it against a replacement with real numbers. -
We smell gas for a moment before our Viking oven gives up. Is that dangerous?
Treat it as a gas leak. A weak ignitor is the usual cause, but you can't tell that from the smell. Leave the house and call 911 and PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 from a safe distance. Once it's been made safe, keep the oven off until it is repaired. -
