Astoria in San Pablo
Astoria commercial service.
San Pablo sits on the flat between the Berkeley Hills and the bay, with San Pablo Avenue and Rumrill Boulevard carrying most of its commercial life. An Astoria behind a busy counter pulls drink after drink, and the parts that move are the ones that wear: the rotary pump, its motor, and the valves that open and close with every dose.
EBMUD supplies the water, soft to moderate, which keeps scale slower than on harder supplies. We pick the machine up, run it on our bench with a pressure gauge on the pump, and give you a written quote before we replace anything. The Plus 4 You, Storm, Core600, Hybrid and Tanya all go through the same bench process.
$150–450 deposit depending on the model. It covers pickup, bench diagnosis and return, and is not credited toward the repair. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Rotary pump getting loud under load. A pump that grinds or whines has worn vanes or bearings, and brew pressure usually follows it down. We measure pressure at the group, work out whether the noise is the motor or the pump head, and replace only the part that is failing.
- Pump motor that hums but will not turn. A motor that hums without spinning often has a failed start capacitor, or a seized pump head is holding it back. We separate the two on the bench, since one is a small part and the other means a new pump.
- Expansion valve dripping into the tray. The expansion valve releases pressure as the brew circuit heats. If it drips all the time, the pump pressure may be set too high or the valve seat is worn. We check the pump setting first, then rebuild or replace the valve.

FAQ
Astoria in San Pablo questions, answered.
-
The pump on our Plus 4 You got loud. Can it wait?
For a short while, maybe, but a noisy rotary pump rarely gets better. As it wears, pressure drops and shots run thin, and a seized pump can take the motor down with it. Getting it on the bench early usually keeps the repair to the pump alone. -
Do you use genuine Astoria parts?
Yes. Genuine parts come through the CMA group supply chain and are available for the current lines. The written quote lists each part the repair needs, so you can see exactly what goes into the machine. -
Is a ten-year-old Storm still worth repairing?
Usually. The boiler, frame and group on an Astoria are built to last, and most faults come down to parts that can be swapped. If the boiler itself is leaking or corroded, the math changes, and the quote shows that plainly. -
What does the Astoria pickup deposit cover?
$150–450 deposit depending on the model. It covers pickup, bench diagnosis and return, and is not credited toward the repair. -
How long does Astoria bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to Astoria coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
