Downtown Pinole still keeps much of its turn-of-the-century building stock. An Astoria in one of those older buildings can be the biggest electrical load on its circuit, and a heating element with failing insulation will trip a breaker long before it stops heating. What we repair on the bench.

Element that trips the breaker on heat-up. An element with a cracked sheath leaks current to ground, and the breaker or GFCI trips as the boiler warms. We test the element's insulation with a meter, replace it if it fails, and run the machine through several full heat cycles on the bench.
Vacuum breaker that hisses and leaks. The small anti-vacuum valve on top of the boiler lets air out as the machine heats, then seals once pressure builds. When its seal wears, it hisses and drips steam into the cabinet. We replace the valve and check the wiring underneath for water damage.
Core600 display or keypad going dead. A blank display or keys that stop answering can be the board, but a loose connector or a supply fault is often the real cause. We trace the power path from the main switch to the board before we order a board.
