It can happen. A Synesso draws a lot of power when the boilers and the pump motor come on together, and a shared or undersized circuit can trip. On the bench we check the machine's own draw and the motor; if the machine is sound, we tell you, and the circuit becomes a job for an electrician.

Does Pinole's EBMUD water change how often the pump needs service?

Not much. Pump wear follows running hours more than water chemistry. What soft to moderate water does change is scale, which builds slowly here, so the descale interval can stretch longer than it would on harder water.

The water is EBMUD, soft to moderate, so a Synesso's boilers scale slowly here. On a steady bar, the pump and its motor carry the load for every shot of the day.

Pump wear rarely announces itself. The machine gets louder, shots take longer to reach pressure, and one day a two-group pull stalls halfway. We bring the machine to our bench, run it against a gauge with the water connected, and separate pump trouble from motor trouble before writing the quote. Nothing gets replaced until you approve it.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Rotary pump losing pressure under a full pull. When the gauge holds at idle but drops as soon as more than one group opens, the pump vanes or its bypass may be worn. We measure output against the gauge, rebuild or replace the pump, and set the pressure back where the machine was built to run.
Pump motor that hums, runs hot or trips. A humming motor, one that runs hot, or one that trips its circuit points to worn bearings or a failing start capacitor. We test the motor apart from the pump, so the quote covers only the part that has actually failed.
Worn coupling and loose pump mounts. Between the pump and the motor sits a coupling that wears, and loose mounts let vibration travel through the frame. Both show up as rattles well before they show up as low pressure. We replace the coupling, renew or tighten the mounts, and run the machine to confirm it is quiet.
