Common issues we see
What breaks. What we fix.
Synesso machines run on independent multi-boiler designs, which is why third-wave cafes in the Bay Area buy them. Per-group PID and stable temperature mean each barista pulls a consistent shot, and the volumetric dosing keeps drink times tight during a rush. We see the MVP Hydra, the S-series like the S200 and S300, and the ES1 across espresso bars in San Ramon and the surrounding Tri-Valley.
These are plumbed machines, so water quality drives most of what fails. Scale builds inside boilers and lines and starves the brew groups. On a Synesso the usual call is a per-group solenoid sticking or leaking, a worn group gasket, or a boiler element and PID losing temperature on one head while the others hold. We rebuild the solenoid, replace gaskets, and test each group back to spec before we sign off.
Flow meters drift or clog and the volumetric dosing goes off. We clean or swap the flow meter and recalibrate. Pump and motor wear shows up as low pressure or noise under load, and that gets diagnosed against the gauge, not by guess. Control boards do fail on these machines. We test the board against the symptom and source the part rather than throwing parts at it.
The build quality is the reason these are worth repairing. Parts are accessible and the machines are meant to be serviced, so a Synesso that gets attention keeps running for years.
Repair and maintenance
For a commercial operator, the schedule matters more than the machine. Descale on a regular interval set by your water hardness, and put a real filtration system on the line ahead of the boilers. Backflush the group heads daily, swap group gaskets and seals before they leak, and check the pump pressure so you catch drift early. A machine that gets this stays consistent across every shift.
Staying ahead of scale is cheaper than a breakdown. A clogged flow meter or a scaled element caught on a maintenance visit is a small part and an hour of labor. The same problem ignored takes a group offline mid-service and costs you the morning. We service Synesso machines as an independent shop. We are not factory-certified or authorized, and we do the electrical and water-line work under CSLB #1136642.
San Ramon is home base, so we get to local cafes fast. Our diagnostic is $75, waived with the repair, and you get a written quote before any work starts. Call ADRIUM.
