Piedmont is a small city wrapped inside Oakland, and its commercial coffee mostly sits along the edges, around Piedmont Avenue in 94611 and the Grand Avenue corridor in 94610 that the neighborhood actually walks to. These are tight, low-volume neighborhood cafes where a Synesso S-series or ES1 is the centerpiece, and there is no spare machine if it goes down.

From San Ramon it is about 35 to 45 minutes over the 24 and 580 to reach the avenue cafes. The local water is hard, so scale drives most of what we fix, and we look at filtration on the call rather than only swapping the broken part.

Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Group gasket and solenoid service. Slow drip from a group or a leak at the three-way. We rebuild the per-group solenoid and replace the gaskets so a one-machine cafe keeps pouring on its other groups.
PID and per-group temperature. A group reads off temp while the bar otherwise holds steady. On a multi-boiler Synesso that is a single PID or sensor. We isolate the group instead of touching the whole machine.
Pump and motor service. Brew pressure sags or the pump gets noisy mid-shot. We check the rotary pump and motor, reset pressure to spec, and confirm it holds.
Descale and water filter. Crusty fittings and slow heat recovery. Hard Piedmont-area water scales the boilers and lines. We descale and change the inline filter so the failure does not return fast.
