Pacifica sits right on the ocean, and that changes what breaks on a Schaerer machine compared to an inland city. The cafes along Palmetto Avenue and near the pier take in salt-laden air every day, and that air gets into the machine through the vents and settles on anything metal.

I've pulled steam wands out of Pacifica machines with more corrosion at six months than an inland unit shows in two years. It's not a maintenance failure on the owner's part, it's just what the coast does to brass and steel fittings that sit exposed to that air constantly.

Boiler fitting corrosion. Salt air attacks boiler fittings and steam wand threads faster here than anywhere else we cover. We replace corroded fittings before they weep or seize, and I recommend a shorter inspection interval for coastal machines than I would inland.
Electrical contact corrosion. Corrosion on connector pins and switch contacts causes intermittent power loss or a board that won't read input correctly. We clean contacts where that still saves the part, and replace the connector or board when it doesn't.
Brew unit seal wear. Daily use in a beachside cafe wears brew unit seals at the normal rate, salt air or not. We rebuild the unit with fresh seals so the shot holds pressure through the cycle.
