Schaerer in Clayton
Schaerer commercial service.
Schaerer's Best Foam system runs milk through valves and tubing, and hot weather is hard on that path. Clayton summers are hot and dry. Milk left sitting in the lines, or held too warm before it reaches the machine, leaves residue that sours and clogs the valves. Foam turns thin, uneven or stops, and the cup can pick up an off taste.
We pick up from anywhere in Clayton, at the foot of Mount Diablo next to Concord. The water is Contra Costa Water District water drawn from the Delta, and we test it before recommending a filter instead of assuming a hardness. On the bench we strip the milk path, find which valves and lines are fouled or cracked, and quote the repair in writing. After the work we check foam texture before the machine goes back.
$150–450 deposit depending on the model. It covers pickup, bench diagnosis and return, and is not credited toward the repair. Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. 6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Milk valves clogged with soured residue. Milk that dries inside a valve hardens into a film the cleaning cycle cannot shift. The valve sticks, milk stops or leaks, and foam comes out uneven. We replace the clogged valves as a set and run the cleaning cycle to confirm the path is clear.
- Cracked or cloudy milk tubing. Tubing ages with heat and cleaning chemicals, then cracks or clouds on the inside where residue collects. We replace the lines end to end rather than one piece at a time.
- Steam circuit leaving the milk lukewarm. Best Foam heats milk with steam from the machine. Scale or a sticking valve in the steam circuit leaves the milk lukewarm or the foam flat. We clear the circuit, test the steam valve, and replace it if it no longer opens fully.

FAQ
Schaerer in Clayton questions, answered.
-
How often should the Best Foam lines be cleaned in a Clayton summer?
Every day the machine pours milk, and at the end of service rather than the next morning. In hot weather, keep milk in the lines and the container no longer than you need to. Replace the tubing at each maintenance even if it looks fine. -
What water filter suits a Schaerer on CCWD water?
It depends on the reading, so test the tap first. Clayton is on Contra Costa Water District water drawn from the Delta. The cartridge should match the hardness you measure and your cup count, and we replace the machine's built-in filter cartridge on request. -
Does summer heat affect anything besides the milk?
Yes. The electronics and the pump run warmer in a hot room, and a machine pushed hard through a hot afternoon has less margin. Keep the vents clear, leave space behind the machine, and put it in standby when it is not in use. -
What does the Schaerer pickup deposit cover?
$150–450 deposit depending on the model. It covers pickup, bench diagnosis and return, and is not credited toward the repair. -
How long does Schaerer bench repair take?
Bench diagnosis can take up to one week; most repairs take 3–4 weeks. Same-day pickup may be available, but same-day repair is not offered. -
What warranty applies to Schaerer coffee-machine repair?
6 months on parts and labor; 90 days on consumables.
