Richmond has a quiet but serious coffee bench, much of it clustered around the Hilltop and Marina Bay commercial strips and the shops feeding the BART corridor along Macdonald Avenue in 94804. A Linea PB that loses temperature stability or a GB5 that stops pulling shots takes a small cafe out of service fast, and we work the whole machine, brew groups, boilers, and electronics.
We run from San Ramon, roughly 35 to 40 minutes over the bridge or up 80 to reach 94801 and 94805. Richmond water runs hard, so scale is the main enemy on a plumbed La Marzocco, and most of what we pull apart traces back to mineral buildup. Common repairs we do
What we repair on the bench.
- Brew-group gaskets and shower screens. Worn group gaskets and clogged shower screens show up as side channeling and weak extraction. We replace gaskets and screens on Linea and GB5 groups and reset the seal.
- Boiler descaling and heating element. Richmond's hard water scales the steam and hot-water boiler and chokes the element. We descale, test the element, and add or service inline water filtration so it does not come back.
- Brew and steam solenoid valves. A solenoid that sticks gives you no flow or a group that won't stop dripping. We rebuild or swap brew and steam solenoids and clear scale from the gicleur restrictors.
- SSR and level probe faults. A failed SSR or a scaled level probe throws temperature and fill errors. We test the probe and PID control side and replace the SSR when the boiler won't hold its setpoint.
