Our shop in Crockett closed for a season. What should we do before switching the machine back on?

Do not just fill it and turn it on. Check for water on the floor or inside the case first. If it sat for months, have it checked on the bench so a stuck solenoid or dried gasket does not flood the counter on the first morning.

Our machine will run on Port Costa water. Does that change anything?

Port Costa is on Contra Costa Water District water rather than EBMUD, so the scale rate can differ from Rodeo or Crockett. Fit a filter made for espresso machines either way, and tell us where the machine will run so we can suggest a cartridge schedule.

A used Classe 7 or Classe 9 can be a sound way to open a small coffee counter, but a machine that sat in storage or came out of a closed shop needs a proper look before it pours for customers. Seals dry out, solenoids stick, scale hides in the boilers, and a level probe that has not seen water for months may read wrong on the first fill.

We collect from Rodeo, including Bayo Vista and the streets around Oleum, and from Crockett and Port Costa. Rodeo and Crockett are on EBMUD water; Port Costa gets treated water from the Contra Costa Water District, so we note which the machine will run on. On our bench we fill it, heat it, test every group and valve, and list what needs replacing before it goes into service. The repair is independent; we are not a factory-authorized Rancilio shop.

What we repair on the bench.

Solenoids stuck after months of storage. Water left in a stored machine dries into scale on the valve seats, and the solenoids stick open or shut on the first fill. We free or replace them and cycle each group until it opens and closes cleanly.
Dried gaskets on a machine brought back into service. Group gaskets, steam valve seals and boiler gaskets shrink and crack when they sit dry. We replace the ones that fail inspection and run the machine to full pressure to check for leaks.
Boilers hiding scale from a previous owner. There is no telling from the outside how the last owner treated the water. We open the boilers, judge the scale and descale or clean by hand before we trust the element and the probe.
