It slows it. EBMUD water is soft to moderate, but a service boiler that heats water all day still concentrates minerals. A filter on the line and a look inside the boiler now and then keep the valves clean.

When the tap dribbles after closing, spits steam instead of water, or the wands deliver wet, weak steam, the fault sits on the boiler side, not at the groups.

What we repair on the bench.

Hot water tap that dribbles after it closes. Worn seals or scale on the hot water valve let water slip past. We rebuild the valve, replace the seals and test it closed with the boiler at full pressure.
Hot water that comes out as spitting steam. If the boiler overfills or runs too hot, the tap delivers a mix of water and steam. On models with a mixing valve, a stuck mixer does the same. We check the level probe, the boiler pressure and any mixing valve before replacing parts.
Steam wand with weak or wet steam. Wet steam points to a boiler level set too high or a fouled probe; weak steam can mean low boiler pressure or a partly blocked tip. We check the level, read pressure on a gauge and clear the wand.
