The controller raises it when the boiler takes too long to fill. Common causes are a closed or weak water supply, a scaled probe, a stuck fill valve or a clogged filter. Check the supply valve first. If it is open, the machine needs a look on the bench.

The boiler on a Classe fills itself. A level probe inside it senses the water, and when the level drops the controller opens a fill valve until the probe is covered again. Benicia's water is moderately hard, and its hardness moves with the mix of State Water Project, Lake Berryessa and Lake Herman supply. Deposits on the probe confuse that loop: the boiler overfills and the steam turns wet, or the controller times out and stops filling with an alarm.

Downtown along First Street, many buildings date from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the Arsenal Historic District holds studios and small offices. If your Rancilio works in one of them, we collect it cooled and disconnected, test the fill loop and the boiler on our bench, and send a written quote first. Our Rancilio work is independent; we are not factory-authorized.

What we repair on the bench.

Level probe fouled so the boiler overfills. A coated probe cannot feel the water touching it, so the controller keeps filling. Steam comes out wet and the hot water tap spits. We clean or replace the probe, check its wire and seal, and watch several fill cycles.
Fill valve that sticks open or shut. The fill solenoid can stick with scale or fail electrically. Stuck open, it floods the boiler; stuck shut, the controller raises a fill alarm. We test the coil, clean the seat and replace the valve if either is worn.
Water treatment that has run past its capacity. Filters and softeners have a rated capacity, and once they pass it, moderately hard water goes straight to the boiler. We look inside the boiler and at the probe, and if scale is building faster than it should, we tell you so the cartridge change can go on a schedule.
