Yes. Soft to moderate water slows scale down but does not stop it, because heating water always leaves some mineral behind. Keep following the machine's descale reminders and change the filter on time.

A Miele CM machine on one of those counters grinds fresh beans for every drink, and its conical burrs take that wear quietly. Once they dull, the grind drifts, extraction suffers and the motor works harder to force beans through.

EBMUD water is soft to moderate, so scale builds more slowly here than in harder-water towns, though it still builds. That puts the grinder and the brew unit near the top of the list when the coffee starts tasting off. Common repairs we do

What we repair on the bench.

Worn conical burrs and a grind that will not hold. Dull burrs crush instead of cutting, and the grounds come out uneven. The cup turns thin one day and bitter the next. We inspect the burrs, replace them once they are past spec, and reset the grind so the dose stays steady.
Grinder motor straining or stalling mid-grind. A motor forcing beans through worn burrs or a packed chute runs hot and can stall halfway. We clear the chute, check the burrs that loaded it and test the motor under load before deciding whether it needs replacing.
Brew unit jamming after a bad dose. When the grind is off, the brew unit receives the wrong amount of coffee and can bind as it compresses the grounds. We clean the unit, replace its gaskets and check the drive, then run a string of test cups to confirm grinder and brew unit work together.
