Where should we keep beans in summer so they stay good for the machine?

Somewhere cool and dark, sealed, in amounts you finish within a few weeks. Fill the bean container with only a few days' worth, since beans there sit at room temperature. Medium roasts are easier on the grinder than very dark, oily ones.

Our machine sat unused while we were away. Should it be looked at before we use it again?

Run a rinse and a descale first, then try a drink. If the brew unit squeaks, stalls or leaves wet pucks, the gaskets have likely dried out, and that is a bench job. Water left sitting in the tank should be dumped and refilled before anything else.

Grinder chute gummed up with oily beans. Oil from dark or stale beans builds up in the chute until beans stop feeding and the machine reports too little ground coffee. We clean the grinder path, check the conical burrs for wear and reset the grind before test brewing.
Thermoblock and valve descale on Delta water. Any water leaves some mineral behind once it is heated. We descale the thermoblock and valves and look over the seals that scale tends to wear. We replace the machine's built-in filter cartridge on request.
Brew unit binding after weeks of sitting idle. A machine left unused for weeks can bind when it starts again, because old grounds and lubricant dry on the brew unit. We clean it, replace hardened gaskets, grease the moving parts and check the drive.
