A Miele bean-to-cup unit fits the steady, moderate pour these spots need, not the high-volume grind of a downtown cafe. This is independent shop work on these machines, we're not running a manufacturer service center.
We come from San Ramon, 40 to 45 minutes via I-580 or Highway 24 to I-80, and we route El Cerrito with our Berkeley and Richmond Inner East Bay days. The hillside homes above the fog line stay milder, but the machines themselves run on the same East Bay water everywhere else, so scale and grinder wear are what bring us out most.

What we repair on the bench.
- Conical grinder burr replacement. El Cerrito accounts that pour steady through the morning wear the conical burrs down, and shots start coming thin and sour. We swap the burrs and dial grind and dose back to spec.
- Descaling and water filtration. Daily brewing scales the thermoblock on East Bay water. We descale and set up or replace filtration so flow and temperature hold through a full shift.
- Brew unit overhaul. The brew unit on CM 5, 6, and 7 machines wears down with regular office and cafe use. We clean, reseal, and re-grease it so it cycles and ejects pucks cleanly.
- Milk pipework and steam valve. Accounts pouring milk drinks clog the lines and wear out the steam valve. We clean the pipework and service the valve to bring foam quality back.
