- GDM merchandiser evaporator icing behind the back panel. Glass-door merchandisers in Mountain View offices and markets often ice up silently. The defrost timer sticks, frost builds on the evaporator, and the drinks up front stay barely cool while the display lights make everything look fine. We defrost the coil, clear the drain pan line, and replace the failed timer or control board.
- Worn condenser fan bearings on restaurant reach-ins. A T-49 that has been through years of Castro Street dinner rushes usually announces bearing failure with a metallic hum from the compressor compartment. Once the fan slows, condensing pressure rises and the cabinet cannot hold 38 degrees during service. Motor and blade replacement is a same-visit fix when we have the unit's spec.
- Door gaskets split at the corners, compressor short-cycling. High-traffic doors split their gaskets at the lower corners first. Warm kitchen air pours in, the compressor cycles on and off constantly, and the evaporator sweats and then freezes. Fresh True gaskets seal the cabinet and cut the runtime, and I always check the door hinges and closer at the same time.
