- Built-in undercounter units starved for airflow in tight millwork. A True undercounter unit set into a Carlmont kitchen island looks great until the cabinetry closes off the condenser vent. The compressor runs long and hot, and eventually the fan bearing or the compressor itself gives out early. I check clearance on every built-in call and will tell you plainly if the cabinetry is the real problem, not the unit.
- Cafe reach-in gaskets torn from daily door traffic. A small cafe kitchen on El Camino Real might open a reach-in door a few hundred times a day, and True gaskets do not survive that pace forever. A torn gasket lets warm air in, the compressor short-cycles trying to keep up, and the top shelf temperature drifts. New gaskets and a hinge check usually solve it in one visit.
- Defrost timers stuck mid-cycle on undercounter coolers. When a defrost timer stops advancing, the evaporator coil frosts over a little more each night until airflow drops and the cabinet runs warm despite the compressor working hard. I thaw the coil fully, test the timer and the defrost heater separately, and replace whichever part actually failed instead of guessing.
