True in Albany
True commercial service.
Albany's food scene is dense for its size, Solano Avenue's run of cafes, bakeries, and small restaurants shared with North Berkeley, plus a second cluster where San Pablo Avenue crosses through. True T-Series reach-ins and TSSU prep tables are common in these kitchens, working long hours with little downtime between shifts. When one needs attention, that work goes through Bay Area Refrigeration Service, our commercial division.
Albany's older buildings weren't designed with kitchen ventilation in mind either, so a True unit tucked into a tight Solano Avenue kitchen often pulls in warm air off the line most of the day. Coils foul with grease and flour buildup quicker than they would somewhere better vented, and that's the root cause behind most of the fan motor and compressor calls I get in this part of town. Condenser inspection is step one on every visit, before I even open the cabinet.
We carry EPA Section 608 Universal certification and hold CSLB #1136642. Calls come in seven days a week since a small kitchen losing its only reach-in on a Saturday needs a fix before Monday, not after. The $99 diagnostic fee is waived when you move forward with the repair.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Condenser fan motors dying in hot, greasy kitchen air. Small kitchens on Solano Avenue don't have much room between the fryer and the reach-in, so grease and flour dust reach the condenser coil fast. A caked coil makes the fan motor strain, and the bearings go early as a result. If a T-49 starts rattling louder as the shift goes on, that's usually the cause. I replace the motor, clean the coil down properly, and set a cleaning interval sized to the kitchen.
- Sandwich prep table gaskets and lid seals worn through. A prep table crammed into a small Solano Avenue kitchen still gets worked hard through lunch, and the gaskets give out from the wear. Once they do, the rail pans drift above the 41-degree line inspectors look for. I replace the gaskets, check the rail cover seals for the same wear, and verify the temperatures hold before closing out.
- Iced evaporator from a stuck defrost timer. The tell is a unit that never shuts off, a cabinet that won't get cold, and a coil iced over solid once you pull the panel. Nine times out of ten the defrost timer has stuck in cool mode and stopped cycling. We replace the timer, melt the ice off the coil, confirm the drain isn't backed up, and get the box down to temperature the same visit, since it's a part we keep stocked.

FAQ
True in Albany questions, answered.
-
How long does it take you to get to Albany from San Ramon?
Roughly 40 to 45 minutes from San Ramon, either I-580 or the 24 over to I-80. Albany rides the same route as our Berkeley and Richmond calls, and a booked window gets a written arrival time ahead of the visit. Call early if a unit's down with product inside, and we'll bump it up the route. -
Is there any way to get this fixed before the health inspector's follow-up visit?
Yes, just tell us the deadline. Most temperature violations trace back to a gasket, a dirty condenser, or an iced coil, and all three are same-visit fixes with parts we already stock. You'll get written documentation for your records. -
Our kitchen is tiny and the unit has never moved. Is that a problem?
Not really, that's typical for Albany's small footprints. True reach-ins service from the front and top, and we've repaired units in kitchens where there's barely room to open the door all the way. If we need extra clearance, we protect the floor and put everything back where it was.
