Turbo Air in San Pablo
Turbo Air commercial service.
San Pablo sits on a plain between the Berkeley Hills and the bay, with San Pablo Avenue running through it and Rumrill Boulevard carrying shops and homes side by side. A Turbo Air reach-in or under-counter behind a counter on either road breathes kitchen grease and street dust into its condenser every day.
A dirty coil is where many compressor problems begin. A matted coil cannot shed heat, head pressure climbs, the compressor runs hot and trips, and the cabinet drifts warm. Many Turbo Air units have a self-cleaning condenser with a brush that sweeps the coil, and that brush can jam and hold dirt in place instead of clearing it.
Our technician for San Pablo is based in Benicia. We clean the coil, free or repair the brush mechanism and measure amp draw before calling the compressor healthy. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair and the quote is written. When the charge is low too, the leak repair falls under ADRIUM's EPA 608 Universal certification.
Common repairs we handle.
- Self-cleaning condenser brush jammed against the coil. When the brush drive stalls, the brush sits still and presses dirt into the fins instead of sweeping it off. We free or replace the drive, clean the coil behind it properly and check head pressure and amp draw before we close up.
- Compressor tripping on high head pressure. A clogged coil or a dead condenser fan pushes pressure up until the compressor's overload trips it. The unit restarts, runs hot and trips again. We clear the cause, test the start parts and measure the compressor so it is not left fighting the same problem.
- Refrigerant leak on an older cabinet. After 15 to 20 years, vibration and corrosion can open a joint in the sealed system. We find the leak, repair it, evacuate the system and recharge to the nameplate amount, then watch the cabinet pull down to temperature.

FAQ
Turbo Air in San Pablo questions, answered.
-
Does the self-cleaning condenser mean we never have to clean the coil?
No. The brush helps, but grease and heavy dust still build up behind it, and the mechanism can jam. Every month or two, unplug it, pull the grille and look at the coil. If it is matted, we clean it properly and check the brush drive. -
Our Turbo Air shuts off by itself in the afternoon and comes back later. What is that?
Most likely the compressor tripping on its overload because it cannot get rid of heat. A clogged coil or a dead condenser fan is the usual cause. Left alone it wears the compressor, so it is worth fixing before it turns into a sealed-system repair. -
Can you tell us if our old Turbo Air is worth one more repair?
Yes. We write down the repair cost next to the state of the cabinet, the insulation and the sealed system. A fan, thermostat or gasket is almost always worth it. A leak on a 20-year-old cabinet with rust in the base may not be, and we say so.
