Turbo Air in Half Moon Bay
Turbo Air commercial service.
Half Moon Bay anchors the Coastside for us, and that coverage stretches up the coast through Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada too. Main Street restaurants and the seafood spots down at Pillar Point Harbor run the same Turbo Air reach-ins and prep tables you'd find on any commercial kitchen line, but the ocean asks more of the equipment out here than it does forty minutes inland.
Salt air is the real difference. It gets into everything, condenser fins, door hinges, cabinet hardware, and it corrodes metal on a timeline that would look premature anywhere else. A Turbo Air unit that would run trouble-free for years in San Ramon can develop coil or hardware problems on the coast well before that.
We have a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County now, so the Coastside gets covered without every call routing from San Ramon. The work runs through Bay Area Refrigeration Service, our commercial refrigeration division. I hold EPA Section 608 certification and CSLB #1136642, quote every job in writing, and waive the $99 diagnostic once you approve the repair.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Condenser coil corrosion from salt air. The aluminum fins on a condenser coil pit and corrode faster this close to the ocean, and a corroded coil loses its ability to shed heat well before it looks obviously bad. The unit runs longer, struggles to hold temperature on a busy Saturday, and the fix depends on how far the corrosion has gone. Sometimes a thorough coil cleaning and fin comb buys real time, sometimes the coil itself needs replacing.
- Door hinge and gasket track rust. Harbor humidity works on the hinges and the metal gasket track around a reach-in or prep table door faster than inland kitchens ever see. Once rust builds up in the track, the gasket can't seat properly even if the gasket itself is fine, and the door stops sealing tight. I clean out the corrosion, true up the hinge if it's sagging, and replace the gasket if it's compromised too.
- Evaporator coil pinhole leaks. Uncoated evaporator coils on Turbo Air units develop pinhole leaks from corrosion years earlier near the coast than the same model would inland. The symptom starts small, a slow refrigerant loss and a unit that takes longer to recover after door openings, before it turns into a full loss of cooling. I leak-test electronically and quote a coil replacement when patching won't hold.

FAQ
Turbo Air in Half Moon Bay questions, answered.
-
Do you actually cover Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada, or just Half Moon Bay itself?
All of it. Half Moon Bay is our anchor point for the Coastside, and Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada are part of the same coverage area, not an add-on. Our technician is based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County, so the whole coast strip is a normal part of his territory. -
How long does it take to get someone out here over Highway 92?
Half Moon Bay sits at the far end of the Peninsula loop compared to somewhere like San Carlos, so it's a longer stretch of the route than the inland stops. I won't promise an exact window since it depends on where the day's calls fall, but you're not waiting on a technician driving all the way from San Ramon to start with. -
Is there anything we can do to slow down the salt air damage?
Rinse the condenser coil and hinges with fresh water on a regular schedule if the unit sits anywhere near an open door or the harbor breeze, and wipe hardware dry afterward instead of letting it air dry with salt residue on it. It won't stop corrosion completely, but it slows it down enough to matter over a few years.
