Turbo Air in San Carlos
Turbo Air commercial service.
San Carlos calls itself the City of Good Living, and Laurel Street downtown backs that up with a tight run of restaurants and bars packed into a few walkable blocks. Behind those dining rooms, Turbo Air reach-ins and prep tables do the actual work, picked because a bar or bistro on a real build-out budget can outfit a whole line without the True premium.
The other side of San Carlos runs out toward the airport, where light industrial buildings and small offices keep undercounter Turbo Air units in their breakrooms. Both sides of the city now get the same local coverage, since we have a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County instead of routing every call from San Ramon.
The work runs through Bay Area Refrigeration Service, our commercial refrigeration division. I carry EPA Section 608 certification and CSLB #1136642, quote every job in writing before touching it, and waive the $99 diagnostic when you approve the repair.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Self-cleaning condenser mechanism jammed with grease. Laurel Street kitchens run dinner service hard enough that grease-laden air builds up fast, and the rotating brush meant to keep the condenser clear jams instead of sweeping it. Once that happens the coil chokes on debris behind a jammed brush, and the compressor runs against pressure it was never designed for. I free or replace the mechanism and clean the coil properly behind it.
- Reach-in door gaskets worn from weekend volume. A restaurant row this busy puts a lot of door cycles on a reach-in over a weekend, and the gasket is the first part to give up, usually starting at the corners where the seal flexes most. A soft or torn gasket lets warm kitchen air in every time the door opens, and the compressor runs longer to make up for it. New gasket, factory profile, and I check the hinge alignment while I'm in there.
- Condenser fan motors in enclosed office breakrooms. The light industrial and office buildings near the airport often tuck their breakroom Turbo Air units into small alcoves with barely any airflow around the back. The condenser fan motor overheats and fails early in that setup, and nobody notices until the drinks stop being cold. I swap the motor and flag the clearance problem so the building doesn't lose another one the same way.

FAQ
Turbo Air in San Carlos questions, answered.
-
How quickly can someone reach us on Laurel Street from where you're based?
We keep a technician living on the Peninsula in San Mateo County now, so San Carlos is a short local trip, not a haul across the bridge from San Ramon. Exact timing depends on the day's route, but a Laurel Street commercial call gets worked into that loop, not scheduled around a long drive. -
What should our kitchen staff do to keep the self-cleaning brush from jamming again?
Wipe down the condenser opening weekly instead of relying only on the brush cycle, especially if you're frying or grilling near the unit. It costs a couple minutes and it's a lot cheaper than a service call for a seized mechanism. -
What's the diagnostic fee, and does it disappear if we repair?
It's $99 to come out and find the actual problem, and that fee is waived completely once you say yes to the repair. You get a written quote either way before any work happens.
