Turbo Air in Alameda
Turbo Air commercial service.
Alameda packs a lot of food business into a small island. The Park Street and Webster Street corridors run on reach-ins and prep tables, and in the newer kitchen builds I keep finding Turbo Air. It is the budget-conscious alternative to True and Beverage-Air, and when a TSR-49SD stops holding 38 degrees, the sushi case or the deli line stops with it.
We service Turbo Air in Alameda through our commercial division, Bay Area Refrigeration Service. I am EPA Section 608 Universal certified, which matters because most current Turbo Air boxes run R-290 hydrocarbon refrigerant and sealed-system work on them is not a job for a general handyman. Warm product is money sitting on the counter, so a down case in Alameda gets same-day priority.
The $75 diagnostic is waived when you approve the repair, you get a written quote before I touch anything, and repairs carry a 1-year warranty. We answer 7 days because restaurant refrigeration does not fail on a schedule.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Condenser fan motor replacement on TSR reach-ins. Salt air off the estuary is hard on fan motors. When the condenser fan on a TSR-23SD or TSR-49SD seizes, head pressure climbs, the compressor overheats, and the box drifts warm during the lunch rush. I carry common Turbo Air fan motors and blades so most of these are a one-visit fix.
- Door gasket seals on glass-door merchandisers. TGM-35SD and TGM-50 merchandisers in Park Street markets lose gasket grip after a few years of constant customer traffic. A loose magnetic gasket means sweating glass, iced evaporators, and a compressor that never cycles off. I measure, order the exact profile, and swap it in one stop.
- Thermostat sensor faults reading the box wrong. Turbo Air uses Dixell digital controllers, and a drifted cabinet probe will show 36 on the display while the shelf is actually at 45. Health inspectors check with their own thermometer, not your display. I verify with a calibrated probe, then replace the sensor or controller as needed.

FAQ
Turbo Air in Alameda questions, answered.
-
How fast can you get to Alameda from San Ramon?
About 35 to 40 minutes over 580 and through the tube or across the Park Street Bridge. We route Alameda together with Oakland and San Leandro calls, so if I am already on that side of the estuary the response is faster. A warm case with product in it goes to the front of the day. -
Is the diagnostic fee separate from the repair?
The diagnostic is $75 and it is waived when you approve the repair. You get a written quote first, and the repair itself carries a 1-year warranty on parts and labor. -
My Turbo Air runs R-290. Can you work on it?
Yes. I am EPA Section 608 Universal certified and equipped for hydrocarbon sealed systems. R-290 charges are small and flammable, so brazing and recovery follow a different procedure than the old R-134a boxes. That is exactly why these units should not go to a generalist.
