Turbo Air in Albany

Turbo Air commercial service.

Albany packs a lot of food service into 1.8 square miles, Solano Avenue's strip of small restaurants, cafes, and bakeries shared with North Berkeley, and San Pablo Avenue crossing through with more storefronts. Kitchens updated in the past few years lean toward Turbo Air fairly often, since a TSR reach-in or MST prep table comes in noticeably cheaper than a True unit doing the same job, and it holds up reasonably well. When it doesn't, that failure tends to hit during service, not before or after.

Bay Area Refrigeration Service, our commercial refrigeration division, covers Turbo Air work in Albany. A warm prep rail during the lunch stretch means product is going bad while the line's still moving, so those calls get pushed to the top of the schedule. EPA Section 608 Universal certification is something I carry specifically because the newer R-290 Turbo Air units require it, and CSLB #1136642 backs the license.

Diagnostic is $99, waived once you approve the repair. You get a written quote, a 1-year warranty on the repair, and we're open all 7 days because a Solano Avenue kitchen can't just close on a weekend.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Condenser fan motors choked with kitchen grease. A tight Solano Avenue kitchen often puts barely three or four feet between the grill and the reach-in, so grease-laden dust reaches the condenser coil in a hurry. Once the coil's caked up, the fan motor strains and eventually stalls, generally at the busiest possible moment. I swap in a new motor, strip the coil clean, and set a cleaning interval that fits how hard the kitchen runs it.
  • Prep table door and lid gaskets. On Solano Avenue, a prep table's doors get worked hard through the lunch stretch, and the gaskets crush down from the repeated slamming. Once that happens the rail loses its grip on 40 degrees and the end pans drift warm. I swap in gaskets matched to the correct Turbo Air profile and check hinge alignment before closing the doors back up.
  • Dixell sensor faults and false readings. A probe reading high sends the controller into over-freezing the coil, chasing a number that isn't real. One reading low does the opposite, showing 37 on the display while the product inside is actually warm. I check real box temperature independently first, then replace whichever part is at fault and confirm the new reading is accurate.

FAQ

Turbo Air in Albany questions, answered.

  • How quickly can you reach Albany from San Ramon?
Usually 40 to 45 minutes from San Ramon, via I-580 or the 24 to I-80. We run Albany on the same route as our Berkeley and Richmond stops, and once a window's booked, you get a written arrival time ahead of time. A warm prep rail jumps you to the front of the queue.
  • Is there any way to get us serviced off-hours so the lunch crowd doesn't take the hit?
We work all 7 days and often have an early morning slot open before prep starts. Let us know your preferred window when you call and we'll build the visit around it.
  • Which Turbo Air parts are already on your truck versus something you'd need to order in?
The common stuff, fan motors, probes, controllers, stays on the truck. Gaskets are model-specific, so those typically take one ordering cycle. If the unit can run safely in the meantime, I'll rig a temporary fix to get you through.
