The faucet piston o-rings and the bowl gasket harden, and the first sign is a slow drip from the tap or a seep line under the bowl. Compressor start relay and capacitor failures. When an Elmeco clicks, hums, and trips its overload instead of starting, the compressor usually gets blamed. Most of the time in my experience it is the start relay or capacitor, which are inexpensive parts. I test the compressor windings first, and if they are healthy I replace the start components and save the owner a four-figure conversation.
Consistency and torque adjustment problems. Elmeco machines judge product thickness by the load on the auger drive. If the setting has drifted or the sensing mechanism is dirty, you get slush that is either watery or frozen so hard the spiral stalls. This shows up a lot after a machine changes hands with a house sale. I calibrate it against the actual recipe the owner uses, not a factory default with plain water.
