On the Big Biz and First Class lines, the auger gets its drive through a magnetic coupling. When the magnets weaken or the coupling slips, the auger turns slow or stops, even with a healthy gearmotor behind it. That is why we never condemn a motor on sound alone.
From San Pablo Avenue to Rumrill Boulevard, a San Pablo machine gets the same order of checks: coupling, gearmotor, seals, then refrigeration. Our technician serving San Pablo is based in Benicia. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair once you approve the written quote, and nothing is replaced before that.
Common repairs we handle.
- Magnetic coupling that slips under a full bowl. We pull the bowl and look at both halves of the coupling for chips, cracks and wear on the drive face. A coupling that has lost its torque gets replaced, and we run the bowl full afterward to confirm the auger holds speed under load.
- Gearmotor that hums without turning. A hum with no motion can be a seized gear train or a failed motor winding. We check the windings, test for a locked rotor and inspect the gears. When the motor is done, we replace it as an assembly rather than nursing it along.
- Lid and bowl seals letting mix escape. Leaks at the bowl gasket put sugar where it does not belong, around the drive and into the drip path. We replace the seals, clean out the syrup that got behind them, and check the bowl for cracks that a new gasket would not fix.

FAQ
Elmeco in San Pablo questions, answered.
-
How do we know if it is the coupling and not the auger motor?
Watch the motor end with the bowl running. If the motor spins at a steady speed and the auger lags or stops, the coupling is the likely cause. If nothing turns, it is more likely the motor or its gears. We confirm it either way at the machine. -
Can we keep pouring from the other bowl while one is down?
Sometimes. Each bowl on a multi-bowl machine has its own drive, so a bad coupling or gearmotor may affect only that bowl. Whether the rest can run safely depends on the fault, and we tell you before we leave. -
Do you replace anything before we approve the price?
No. We find the fault, write up one total price, and wait for your yes. If a part has to be ordered, the quote says so and gives the plan for the return visit.
