I carry the common wear parts for these on the van, meaning auger shaft seals, bowl gaskets, faucet assemblies, and drive components, so a lot of San Jose repairs finish in one visit. Gearmotor replacement on FCM Millennium units. This is the most common Elmeco call we get in San Jose. The gearmotor drives the auger spiral, and after a few years of continuous granita duty the gearbox wears. You hear grinding or clicking, the spiral hesitates, and eventually the product freezes into a solid block around a stopped auger. I replace the gearmotor as an assembly, check the drive coupling for wear, and verify torque before I leave.
Auger shaft seal leaks. When syrup shows up in the drip tray behind the bowl, the shaft seal where the auger passes through the back wall has failed. San Jose shops running sugary horchata or mango mixes see this sooner because sugar crystallizes on the seal face and cuts it. I replace the seal and the bushing behind it, because putting a new seal on a worn bushing buys you three months, not three years.
Weak freezing from a blocked condenser. In cramped downtown storefronts the condenser coil packs up with dust and cooking grease, head pressure climbs, and the machine cannot hold granita texture during a rush. I clean the coil, check the condenser fan, and verify refrigerant charge. I am EPA Section 608 Universal certified, so if the sealed system itself needs work, that is done properly and legally.
