Elmeco machines run hard. They sit on a bar back or a dessert counter and pour granita all day, and the parts that move are the parts that fail. The most common call we get is on the gearmotor. When the auger slows or stops spinning, the mix sets up soft instead of holding a proper granita texture, and the operator notices before the customer does. We test the motor under load, check the windings and the drive, and replace it when it’s done rather than nursing a unit that will quit again in a week.

The magnetic coupling is the next usual suspect on the Big Biz and First Class lines. When the coupling weakens or slips, the auger turns slow or not at all even with a good motor behind it. We pull the bowl, inspect the magnets and the drive face, and swap the coupling when the torque is gone. While the bowl is off we go through the gaskets and lid seals, because a leaking bowl gasket leaks mix into places it shouldn’t and brings flies and complaints with it.

Mix sensors and electronic boards are where the Quick Gel and the newer units give trouble. A bad sensor reads the consistency wrong and the machine over-freezes or under-freezes the batch. A failing board throws faults or kills a function outright. We diagnose the board before condemning it, since a sensor or a connector is often the real cause and a board is the expensive part. Almost always worth repairing

For a commercial operator the math is simple. A new Elmeco granita machine is a real capital line, and a gearmotor, coupling, or set of seals is a fraction of that. Most of these units are built to be rebuilt, so a machine that’s throwing a single fault is almost always cheaper to fix than to replace. The exception is a unit with multiple failures stacking up at once, and we’ll tell you straight when that’s the case.

We charge $75 for the diagnostic and waive it when you approve the repair. You get a written quote before we touch anything, so there are no surprises on the invoice and you can decide with real numbers in front of you. We carry the common gearmotors, couplings, and seals for the popular lines, which keeps the machine down for less time and the bar pouring again sooner.
