- Gearbox grinding or stripped on slush augers. Over-thick mix is the silent killer of Donper slush machines. The auger gearbox labors against syrup mixed heavy, gets loud, then strips. I replace the gearbox and walk the staff through brix targets, because the mix ratio decides whether the new gearbox lasts one season or seven.
- Soft-serve barrel not freezing while the machine runs. A Donper soft-serve unit that hums but pours soup usually has a condenser choked with dust from a busy counter, a failed fan motor, or low charge from a slow leak. I check airflow and pressures in that order. As an EPA 608 tech I repair leaks properly instead of gassing the machine up every few months.
- Beater shaft seal leaking mix into the drip tray. When mix appears in the rear drip tray, the beater shaft seal is done, and running it that way risks the bearing and the barrel. Seal replacement is quick with the right parts on hand, and I inspect the beater blades and scraper while the barrel is open.
