Common issues we see
What breaks. What we fix.
Donper builds the commercial slush and soft-serve machines you find in c-stores, cafes, and dessert spots. They run hard, often all day, every day. When one goes down it stops a revenue line, so we treat them as priority repairs. We service the refrigeration side, the drive side, the controls, and the wear parts that keep a barrel sealed and turning.
Compressor and refrigeration faults are the most common big-ticket call. A barrel that won’t freeze, product that stays soupy, or a unit short-cycling usually points to the sealed system, a failed start component, or a refrigerant problem. Any refrigerant work is licensed under CSLB #1136642, so we recover, repair, and recharge to code. We test the system end to end before we hand it back, not just swap a part and hope.
Drive problems are the other frequent failure. Gear and beater motors wear out, especially on machines run past closing. You’ll hear grinding, see the auger stall, or the machine will trip on overload. We check the motor, the gearbox, the drive coupling, and the load on the barrel before we condemn anything, since a dragging seal can look like a dead motor.
The rest of the work is sensors, seals, and boards. Mix sensors that read wrong cause overfreeze or watery product. Barrel seals and gaskets dry out, leak, and let air in, which kills consistency and invites contamination. Control boards fail from heat and power events. We carry common seals and gaskets and source boards and sensors by unit, then dial the machine back in so it holds spec.
Almost always worth repairing
A commercial Donper is expensive to replace and the failures are rarely fatal. A motor, a seal kit, a sensor, or a board brings the machine back for a fraction of a new unit, and the cabinet and sealed system usually have years left. For an operator, the math is simple: a repair that runs a few hundred dollars beats a multi-thousand-dollar replacement and the downtime that comes with installing it.
The only time we’ll tell you to replace is when the sealed system is gone on an old, heavily run unit and the repair cost approaches a new machine. We figure that out up front. Diagnostic is $75, waived when you approve the repair, and you get a written quote before we touch anything. No surprise charges, no work you didn’t sign off on.
