Beater motor and drive gear failure. When the barrel stalls or the motor grinds under load, the beater motor or the drive gear behind it has usually worn out. I replace the failed part rather than the whole gearbox when the rest of the drive train still checks out.
Barrel seals and gaskets. Mix weeping out at the front of the barrel or a seized auger points to a worn seal or gasket. I rebuild the barrel with the correct Donper seal kit so it holds pressure again.
