Gear motor bearing whine on decade-old units. A rising whine that speeds up with the auger is the gear motor bearings telling you their schedule. On a machine this age I quote the gearbox rebuild against a full motor swap and let you pick, with real prices for both. Either way it is fixable, and cheaper than the downtime of ignoring it.
Refrigerant leak at a corroded process stub. Old machines develop leaks at the brazed process stubs where vibration has worked the joint for years. I leak-check electronically, repair the joint properly with the system recovered, then evacuate and weigh in a fresh charge. Documented sealed system work, no shortcuts, per my 608 certification.
