Beverage-Air in South San Francisco
Beverage-Air commercial service.
South San Francisco carries two different food worlds. East of 101, biotech campuses run their own cafeterias and coffee bars for thousands of employees, and those kitchens lean on Beverage-Air undercounters and glass door merchandisers to keep drinks and prepped food cold all day. Downtown, Grand Avenue holds a tighter strip of family restaurants and bars running back-bar coolers and reach-ins. We work both sides of the city through Bay Area Refrigeration Service, and neighboring Brisbane sits on the same route.
Campus kitchens and downtown kitchens fail for different reasons here. A cafeteria merchandiser that gets opened by hundreds of employees between 11:30 and 1 sees door cycling most standalone restaurants never deal with, and that shows up as evaporator icing or a compressor that never gets a break. Grand Avenue restaurants deal with more grease and less airflow around older equipment tucked into small kitchens. Either way I start with airflow, charge, and controls before I say the word compressor.
We are owner-run under ADRIUM Service Solutions, EPA Section 608 Universal certified, and CSLB #1136642. The $99 diagnostic is waived if you move forward with the repair, quotes are written, and we schedule seven days a week.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Evaporator icing from lunch-rush door traffic in campus cafeterias. Biotech campus cafes push hundreds of employees past a glass door merchandiser in a 90-minute lunch window. That much door-opening lets warm, humid air into the case constantly, and the evaporator ices over faster than a normal restaurant unit would. I check defrost cycle timing along with the coil, because on high-traffic units the factory defrost schedule is often the real problem.
- Condenser coil fouling near the industrial and warehouse blocks. Units in break rooms and small cafes near the Utah Avenue and Littlefield warehouse district pull in more airborne dust than a typical kitchen, and it packs into the condenser fins fast. Cooling drops off gradually until someone notices the cabinet running warm. I wash the coil properly, not just blow it out, and check head pressure before I leave.
- Compressor start relay failure in Grand Avenue back-bar coolers. An older BB back-bar cooler that hums and clicks without starting, then trips the breaker, usually has a failed start relay or run capacitor, not a dead compressor. I see this a few times a year on Grand Avenue. I test the compressor windings directly before replacing anything, because swapping a good compressor for a bad start component is money wasted.

FAQ
Beverage-Air in South San Francisco questions, answered.
-
How do you handle response time for South San Francisco compared to San Ramon?
We have a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County now, so South San Francisco is a local stop, not a long drive across the bay from San Ramon. That loop naturally covers Brisbane, San Bruno, Daly City, and Millbrae too. -
Our cafe is inside a badge-secured biotech campus. Can you actually get to the unit?
Yes, but you need to coordinate it. Most campuses require us on a visitor list or escorted in by facilities, so tell us that when you book and give us the contact who can clear us at the gate. We show up with license and insurance documentation ready if security asks. -
We have several Beverage-Air units in one cafeteria. Do you handle multiple units in one visit?
Yes, and it is more efficient for both of us. I diagnose each unit separately since they rarely fail for the same reason, but one visit covers the whole kitchen and the written quote breaks out cost per unit.
