Beverage-Air in Pacifica

Beverage-Air commercial service.

Pacifica sits right on the coast, and the cafes and taco spots along Palmetto Avenue and around Rockaway Beach run Beverage-Air undercounters and reach-ins that take a different kind of abuse than anywhere else on our route. It is not grease or dust that shortens their life here. It is salt. The marine air coming off the ocean carries salt that settles on condenser coils and fasteners and works faster than most owners expect.

I inspect coastal units for corrosion, not just dirt, when I open one up in Pacifica. A condenser coil that looks fine on a quick glance can have pitting starting on the aluminum fins or a slow pinhole leak forming in the copper tubing, both accelerated by salt exposure. Hinges and screws corrode too, which is often the real reason a door stops sealing here even when the gasket itself still looks decent.

We run this out of ADRIUM Service Solutions, owner-operated, EPA Section 608 Universal certified, CSLB #1136642. The $99 diagnostic is waived when you book the repair, quotes are written, and we are available seven days a week.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Condenser coil corrosion and pinhole refrigerant leaks. Salt-laden air off the ocean attacks aluminum condenser fins faster than inland units ever see, and it can eventually open a pinhole leak in the copper tubing behind them. A unit that is slowly losing charge over months, not failing outright, points me straight at the condenser on a Pacifica call. I check for leaks with a proper detector before assuming it is just low on refrigerant.
  • Hinge and hardware corrosion causing door seal failure. Door hinges and mounting screws on units near Rockaway Beach and along Highway 1 rust and seize from constant salt exposure, even when the gasket itself is still intact. A stiff or sagging hinge pulls the door out of alignment and the cabinet loses its seal at one corner. I replace corroded hardware with fasteners that hold up better in this environment, not just whatever is cheapest.
  • Fan motor bearing wear from moist, salty air. Condenser and evaporator fan motors in coastal cafes wear out their bearings faster than the same motor would inland, because the moisture and salt in the air get into the housing over time. A motor that starts humming louder before it finally seizes is common on my Pacifica calls. I replace the motor and check the rest of the electrical for corrosion while it is open.

FAQ

Beverage-Air in Pacifica questions, answered.

  • Are you actually able to get out to Pacifica, or is it too far off your regular route?
We have a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County, and Pacifica groups naturally with our Daly City and San Bruno stops, continuing down the coast toward Half Moon Bay. It is a normal part of the route, not a special trip.
  • Does the salt air mean we need service more often than an inland restaurant?
More frequent condenser cleaning helps, yes, and I flag it on coastal units specifically because rinsing salt film off the coil before it pits the fins is cheaper than replacing a corroded condenser later. I can talk through a reasonable interval for your unit when I am out there.
  • Can anything be done to make a new or replacement unit hold up better here?
Coated condenser coils exist for coastal environments and are worth asking about if you are replacing a unit rather than repairing one. I will point that out in the written quote if replacement is genuinely the better option for your situation.
