Years of daily scraping wear the auger flights and score the barrel surface, and the machine starts leaving unfrozen liquid at the barrel walls while the center over-freezes. Drink consistency goes unpredictable. I measure the wear honestly and quote either an auger replacement or, when the barrel itself is gone, a straight answer about the machine's remaining life.
- Hard-freeze conditions on premium low-sugar mixes. Los Altos shops often pour less-sweet, natural-ingredient mixes, and low sugar means low freezing-point depression, so the product sets up harder than the factory settings expect. The machine strains and trips out. I recalibrate the freeze control to the actual mix and document the settings so a staff reset does not undo the fix.
- Membrane keypad failures on older Ultra-2 panels. The classic Ultra-2 membrane switch wears out from thousands of presses, buttons go dead, and staff start power-cycling the machine to change modes. The panel is a known part with a known fix. I replace the membrane and check the ribbon connector behind it, which fails from the same flexing.
