Commercial Ice Machine Repair in Castro Valley

Commercial Ice Machine Repair for Castro Valley kitchens.

Castro Valley's summers stay mild, with marine air keeping most afternoons in the high 70s and low 80s. That spares an ice machine's condenser a good deal of stress. So when a machine in a cafe, a bar or a school kitchen here falls short of ice, the water side is where we start: the supply, the filter, the fill and the level control.

EBMUD water is soft to moderate, so scale builds slowly, but slowly still adds up on a machine that runs every day. A Hoshizaki KM reads its water level with a float switch, and a coated float throws off the fill. A Manitowoc Indigo NXT uses a level probe that fouls the same way. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and you get a written quote before we start. CSLB #1136642.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Hoshizaki KM float switch stuck with scale. The float rides up and down in the water tank and tells the board when the fill is done. Scale or slime makes it stick, and the machine either overfills or waits on a fill that never finishes. We clean or replace the switch and watch a full cycle to confirm the fill ends where it should.
  • Clogged inlet screen or spent filter. A starved supply looks like a refrigeration fault: long cycles, thin ice, partial batches. We measure the flow at the machine, clean the inlet screen, change the cartridge and check the shutoff valve before anyone opens the sealed system.
  • Worn water pump making cloudy cubes. The pump circulates water over the evaporator during the freeze. A worn pump moves less of it, and cubes come out cloudy, small or missing in spots. We check the pump's flow and current draw and replace it along with any cracked hose.
  • Maintenance that matches a mild climate. A mild summer is easy on the condenser but does nothing for the water system. Twice a year we clean and sanitize the head, delime the evaporator, change the filter and wash the air filter, and the date goes inside the panel.

FAQ

Commercial Ice Machine Repair in Castro Valley questions, answered.

  • Our kitchen stays cool, but the ice machine takes ages to finish a batch. Why?
In a cool room the condenser is seldom the cause. A slow batch usually traces to the water side: a clogged filter, a sticking float or level probe, or a leaking inlet valve adding warm water during the freeze. We check those first and quote the fix in writing.
  • With EBMUD water, does the ice machine still need a filter?
Yes. Soft to moderate water still carries sediment and chlorine, and the filter catches both before they reach the evaporator and the ice. We change the cartridge at each maintenance visit and mark the date on the housing.
  • Do you handle ice machines in schools and offices, or only restaurants?
All of them. A school kitchen, an office break room and a Castro Valley bar run the same Manitowoc and Hoshizaki equipment and get the same diagnosis. ADRIUM holds EPA 608 Universal certification for any refrigerant work those machines need.
