The Black Eagle Gravimetric weighs each shot as it pours. A scale under each group and a flow meter on the water side work together to end the shot at a target weight. When either one fouls or drifts, shots stop short or run long, and baristas start overriding the machine by hand.
Hercules sits on San Pablo Bay with Interstate 80 running through it, and its water is EBMUD, soft to moderate. That keeps scale slow to build in the boilers, but the scales under the cups face a different problem: coffee, milk and rinse water washing into the drip-tray area. We collect the machine, test each scale and flow meter on our bench against known weights and volumes, and quote before any work starts.

What we repair on the bench.
- Drip-tray scale reading erratically or not at all. Liquid that gets under the scale platform or into its connector makes the reading jump or freeze. We clean and dry the load cell area, check the wiring, and recalibrate against a known weight. A load cell that stays unstable after that gets replaced.
- Gravimetric shots ending before the target weight. When shots end early, the scale may be reading heavy or its tare may be off. We compare the machine's readings with a reference scale on the bench, recalibrate, and pull test shots until each group stops where it should.
- Flow meter throwing the dose off. The Gravimetric model uses a flow meter alongside the scale on each group, so debris in the meter can throw the dose off even when the scale is fine. We clean or replace the meter and confirm the groups dose alike.

If your settings allow it, that can keep the bar going as a stopgap, though shot weights will vary more. Once the scale is repaired and calibrated, go back to dosing by weight. -

Yes. The Waterfront District, the areas along Refugio Valley Road and the rest of Hercules are all in our pickup area. We collect the machine, repair it on our bench and bring it back once you approve the quote. -
