Salt air corrosion on the control board and exterior wiring. Units mounted on an exterior wall facing the ocean side take on salt fog constantly, and it works into wiring harness connectors and eventually the control board itself. I see intermittent faults out here that trace back to a corroded connector rather than a failed part. I clean and reseal connections where I can and flag the board if corrosion has already gotten into it.
Vent termination fouling from fog and salt buildup. The vent and intake caps on coastal installs collect a film of salt residue from the fog, and that buildup can restrict airflow enough to trip a blockage or airflow fault, especially on cottages near Main Street and the harbor where units sit close to the water. I clean the terminations and check the screens more often than I would on an inland job.
Freeze-like faults from marine layer condensation. Even without hard freezes, the heavy morning marine layer out here puts a lot of moisture on outdoor components, and condensation can pool somewhere it should not, especially on units without proper drip protection over the vent stack. It throws a fault that looks like a freeze issue even when it never got near freezing. I check the drip protection and reroute condensate paths that were not built for this much coastal moisture.
