What breaks. What we fix.

We now take every Breville espresso model. That includes the Oracle and Oracle Touch, the BES920 Dual Boiler, the Barista line, Bambino machines, and the rest of the Breville espresso range. The pickup-and-bench model gives us time to diagnose smaller machines without turning a short house call into a guess.

On the Oracle and Dual Boiler the regular calls are heat and temperature faults that trace to a boiler element, thermostat, or thermal cutout, not a dead control board. Steam-boiler and pressure problems come next (weak pressure, flat shots, OPV issues), then grinder wear on the Oracle that turns the shot thin or bitter, and scale from Bay Area water that chokes flow and pushes temperature off until the machine gets descaled.

We diagnose before we replace anything, because most faults are a sensor, a thermostat, a pump, or scale rather than the expensive board, and sometimes the fix is simply reseating a part that worked loose. Written quote first, always.

The Breville deposit is $150. It covers pickup, bench diagnosis, and return and does not go toward the repair. Bench time is $150 per hour. Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3–4 weeks. That is exactly why we recommend preventive maintenance.

Repair parts are covered for 6 months; consumables are covered for 90 days. Coffee-equipment pickup covers our 56 Bay Area cities plus San Francisco. For coffee-only intake, visit our dedicated coffee division, or contact Adrium.

From a recent job

A Breville Barista Pro (Model BES878) came in from Concord that would only run for about five seconds and then shut off. We opened it up and found the thermostat had come off the heater element, so the machine’s thermal protection read wrong and cut power almost immediately. We reseated the thermostat back onto the element and it ran normally again, no parts needed.

Breville Barista Pro espresso machine, Model BES878, on the counter, in for a runs-only-a-few-seconds fault.

The Breville nameplate: Coffee Machine Model BES878 BTR/A, 120V, 1680W.

Inside the Breville: the heater element on the left and the grinder gear assembly on the right.

The thermostat that had detached from the heater element; reseating it fixed the fault with no parts.

This Barista Pro is a good example of why the bench matters. The fault looked bigger from the outside, but controlled inspection found a loose thermostat and no parts were needed. Under the current model, Barista machines and every other Breville espresso model are accepted.
