The Oracle and Oracle Touch are the machines I see most here, along with the BES920 Dual Boiler in the bigger kitchens on the hill. Peninsula water is moderately hard, and the twin boilers on these machines have narrow internal passages that scale up faster than a single big commercial boiler would. A machine that used to hit temperature in under a minute and now takes three or four, with a lukewarm group at the end, is telling you it needs a descale before anything else.

What we repair on the bench.

Scaled boiler, slow heat and a lukewarm group. On the Dual Boiler and the Oracle, scale narrows the passages inside both boilers and coats the heating elements, so the machine takes longer to reach temperature and the group never quite gets hot. I descale the full heating path, not just the visible tank, check the thermostats for damage from the buildup, and confirm heat-up time and group temperature are back in spec before I call it done.
Oracle grinder chute clogs and the dose drifts. The built-in grinder on the Oracle and Oracle Touch does the grinding, dosing, and tamping in one motion, and ground coffee oil cakes onto the chute walls over months of daily use. That changes how much coffee lands in the portafilter shot to shot, even though nothing on the display changed. I strip the grind path, clean or swap the burrs if they are worn, and reset the dose so it repeats.
Steam wand runs weak or won't clear. A wand that whistles instead of steaming, or one that clogs at the tip within a few days of cleaning, usually points to a scaled steam boiler or a steam valve that no longer seats fully. I clear the tip, test the valve and solenoid under pressure, and descale the steam side if that is the root of it, since a clean tip on a scaled boiler just clogs again.
