A grinder fault shows up in the cup first

A grinder may still run while the dose wanders, the grind changes between cycles, or the motor labors under beans. Other faults are less subtle: a jam, a dead display, a breaker trip, or a machine that starts but will not feed coffee. We diagnose standalone and machine-integrated grinders on the bench, where we can test them repeatedly without disrupting a counter.

We start by reproducing the complaint. Then we inspect the grind path, burr condition, drive, dosing hardware, wiring, and controls that apply to that unit. Cleaning can solve a packed grind path, but it cannot restore a worn part or a motor that fails under load. We separate those cases before quoting work.

How pickup works

The bench deposit covers pickup, diagnosis, and return and does not go toward the repair. We confirm the applicable deposit when the equipment is scheduled because it depends on the equipment and brand tier. Standard bench time is $150 per hour; Jura, La Marzocco, and Miele bench time is $175 per hour.

After diagnosis, we send a written quote and wait for approval. Diagnostics can take up to a week; most repairs run 3–4 weeks. That is exactly why we recommend preventive maintenance. Keeping the grind path clean and addressing drift early is easier than finding the grinder stopped at opening.

Parts used in the repair are covered for 6 months; consumables are covered for 90 days. Coffee pickup includes our 56 Bay Area cities plus San Francisco.
