Jenn-Air made that design familiar, and other makers followed. Those blowers collect grease over the years, the motor bearings wear, and a pop-up vent can stop rising or lowering.

The newer neighborhoods near the bay, Victoria by the Bay and New Pacific, date from the early 2000s, so a range bought with one of those houses is now past twenty years old. Common repairs we handle.

Downdraft vent that will not rise or lower. A pop-up downdraft vent is driven by a small motor and gear, with limit switches at the top and bottom. Grease and crumbs jam the track or wear the gear teeth. We clean the track, test the motor and the switches, and replace the worn part.
Downdraft blower weak or noisy. The blower sits under the cooktop or in the cabinet, and a grease-soaked wheel throws it out of balance. We pull the blower, clean or replace the wheel, test the motor, and check that the duct to the outside is clear.
Glass cooktop with a crack or a dead zone. A cracked glass top has to be replaced before the cooktop is used again, since spills can reach live parts. A dead zone with intact glass is usually the element, the limiter or the switch, and we test each one before ordering.
Dual-fuel range oven baking unevenly. On a dual-fuel range, gas burners sit on top and an electric oven with a convection fan sits below. A convection fan that stops or a failed bake element gives uneven results. We test the fan motor and each element, then check the temperature sensor.
