Condenser fan motor failure in hot, cramped installs. When the condenser fan slows or seizes, head pressure spikes and the machine loses freezing capacity fast, especially in a c-store corner with no clearance. The motor rarely fails all at once. It gets noisy, draws high amps, and the product quality slides for weeks first. I replace the motor and blade as a set when needed, check the fan is pulling rated amps, and reposition or shim the machine for airflow when the install is fighting it.
Refrigerant leaks at vibration-cracked braze joints. A compressor that runs nearly continuous transmits vibration into the discharge and suction lines, and over a few years a braze joint fatigues and starts weeping refrigerant. The charge drops slowly, so the machine limps for months before it quits. I find the joint with an electronic detector, repair it properly, evacuate, and weigh the charge back in. I also add line support where the vibration caused the failure, otherwise the same joint cracks again.
Low mix sensor false alarms shutting down sales. Spaceman machines cut the freeze cycle when the hopper reads low to protect the barrel from running dry. Syrupy mix residue on the sensor probes makes the machine cry low mix with a full hopper, and staff end up restarting it all day. I clean and test the sensor circuit, check the probe wiring where it chafes at the hopper, and replace the sensor when cleaning does not hold. Cheap fix, big difference in a store that sells frozen drinks every hour it is open.
