Spaceman in San Jose
Spaceman commercial service.
San Jose keeps Spaceman machines busier than any other city we cover. Taquerias along Alum Rock and Story Road run slush and agua fresca barrels through the whole lunch rush, downtown spots near San Pedro Square pour frozen cocktails until closing, and gas station c-stores on Monterey Road cycle their 6455H units around the clock. That duty cycle is exactly what kills these machines. The compressor and condenser never get a rest, and the first sign of trouble is usually product that pours soft instead of holding a peak.
When a Spaceman in San Jose stops freezing, I start on the refrigeration side. I check refrigerant charge, pull the condenser filter, verify the condenser fan is actually moving air, and watch how the compressor loads. A lot of the machines I see downtown sit in tight back rooms with fryers nearby, so the condenser is packed with greasy dust and the system runs at high head pressure until something gives. That is a mechanical problem with a mechanical fix, and adjusting the consistency knob will not solve it.
We are ADRIUM Service Solutions, based in San Ramon, CSLB #1136642, and I hold EPA Section 608 Universal certification, so I can legally open the sealed system, recover refrigerant, repair the leak, and recharge to spec. The diagnostic is $75 and we waive it when you approve the repair. You get a written quote before I touch anything, and repairs carry a 1 year warranty.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Barrel stops freezing from a slow refrigerant leak. The classic San Jose call: the machine runs all day, product gets softer week by week, then one morning it will not freeze at all. On Spaceman units I usually find the leak at a braze joint near the evaporator wrap or at the process tube. I locate it electronically, recover the remaining charge, braze the joint, pull a vacuum, and weigh in fresh refrigerant. Topping off without fixing the leak just buys you a month.
- Clogged condenser overheating the compressor. Back rooms in busy taquerias and c-stores are dusty and often share air with a kitchen. The Spaceman condenser filter loads up, head pressure climbs, and the compressor either trips on thermal overload or runs so hot the product goes soupy by mid afternoon. I clean the coil properly, check the condenser fan motor amp draw, and confirm clearance around the cabinet so it does not happen again in three months.
- Beater motor overload tripping during rush hours. When product freezes too hard, or the scraper blades are worn and the barrel ices over, the beater motor draws heavy current and the overload opens right when the store is busiest. I check blade condition, gearbox output, and motor amps under load, then replace what is actually worn instead of just resetting the overload and leaving.

FAQ
Spaceman in San Jose questions, answered.
-
How fast can you reach my San Jose location from San Ramon?
We come down 680 from San Ramon, which puts most of San Jose about 40 to 45 minutes out in normal traffic. I route San Jose stops together with Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, and Los Gatos, so if I am already working in the South Bay that day, your visit can land within a couple of hours. We run 7 days, so a Saturday breakdown does not wait until Monday. -
My Spaceman still runs but the slush is soft. Is that worth a service call?
Yes, and sooner is cheaper. Soft product usually means low refrigerant charge, a dirty condenser, or worn scraper blades. All three get worse under load, and the end stage is a dead compressor, which is the most expensive part in the machine. The $75 diagnostic tells you exactly which one it is, and we waive that fee when you approve the repair. -
Do you handle the refrigerant work yourself or subcontract it?
Myself. I am EPA Section 608 Universal certified, so leak repair, recovery, evacuation, and recharge all happen in one visit with my own gauges and scale. No second company, no second appointment, and the repair carries a 1 year warranty in writing.
