Spaceman in San Pablo
Spaceman commercial service.
San Pablo sits on the plain between the Berkeley Hills and San Pablo Bay, and more of its housing went up between the 1940s and the 1960s than in any other era. Shops along San Pablo Avenue and Rumrill Boulevard can sit on older wiring too. A frozen beverage machine on an older or crowded circuit sees the voltage sag every time its compressor starts, and low voltage at start-up is hard on relays, capacitors and the compressor itself.
So when a Spaceman hums and clicks without starting, we test the start components and the voltage at the plug before anyone talks about a new compressor. Our San Pablo technician is based in Benicia. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and the written quote comes first. Refrigerant and compressor work is done under ADRIUM's EPA 608 Universal certification and CSLB #1136642.
Common repairs we handle.
- Compressor hums, clicks and will not start. That pattern usually means a failed start relay or capacitor, or a supply that sags too low at start-up. We test the relay, the capacitor and the compressor windings, and measure voltage at the moment of start. The compressor itself is often fine once the start parts are replaced.
- Condenser fan motor stopped. Without the fan, head pressure climbs and the compressor trips on overload, restarts, then trips again. The barrel never freezes properly. We test the fan motor and its wiring, replace it if it has failed, and clean the coil while the panels are off.
- Machine on an extension cord or crowded outlet. A frozen beverage machine on an extension cord or a packed outlet strip loses voltage every time it starts, and the symptoms look like a failing compressor. We check what the machine is plugged into. If the circuit is the cause, we tell you what the machine needs so an electrician can fix it.

FAQ
Spaceman in San Pablo questions, answered.
-
Our Spaceman trips the breaker a few times a week. Is the compressor going?
Maybe, but rule out the cheaper answers first. A worn start relay, a failing capacitor, a dirty condenser or a shared circuit can each trip a breaker. We check the start parts, the current draw and the circuit before we quote a compressor. -
Is it safe to reset the breaker and keep going?
Once is reasonable. If it trips again, leave it off and call. Repeated restarts under a fault heat the compressor windings and can turn a relay repair into a compressor replacement. -
We are adding a second Spaceman on the same wall. Anything to check first?
Read the nameplate for voltage and amperage on both machines and make sure the circuits match, with no extension cords in between. Leave the clearance the manual calls for around each condenser, so one machine does not breathe the other's hot air. A good machine on the wrong circuit can look like a bad one.
