La Cornue in Martinez

La Cornue in Martinez kitchens.

Martinez splits into two kinds of La Cornue home: the Alhambra Valley estates south of town, where a Chateau anchors a kitchen with acreage around it, and the restored Victorians near downtown and Main Street, where a CornuFe 110 was chosen because it fits a period kitchen without pretending to be modern. We cover both from San Ramon.

The valley properties are frequently on propane, and that is where I start every diagnostic out there. A La Cornue burns beautifully on LP when the orifices and regulator are right, and burns dirty when they are not, and the difference is measurable, not a matter of opinion. In the downtown Victorians the issue is more often old house wiring feeding the CornuFe's electric ovens, so I check supply voltage under load before blaming the range.

Written quotes, $75 diagnostic waived with repair, one year warranty on the work, 7 days a week.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • LP orifice and regulator faults on valley properties. Sooted burner caps and a flame that lifts off the ports usually trace to orifices sized for the wrong fuel or a regulator drifting off its LP setting. I put a manometer on the manifold, confirm the numbers against spec, and correct the fuel side before anyone spends money on range parts that were never the problem.
  • Uneven baking in the vaulted oven. The Chateau's vaulted oven bakes with radiant heat and no fan, so a partially blocked oven burner or a lazy pilot shows up as one dark side on every loaf. I clean and adjust the oven burner, verify the flame spreads evenly across it, and check the flue path is clear.
  • Cracked spark electrodes. Electrode ceramic cracks from thermal cycling and from cleaning products, and a cracked electrode leaks spark to ground instead of lighting the burner. I inspect all positions when one fails, because on a range this age they tend to go within a year or two of each other, and one parts order from France beats three.

FAQ

La Cornue in Martinez questions, answered.

  • How far is Martinez from your San Ramon base?
About 35 minutes up 680 past Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Concord. Martinez is the north end of our Diablo Valley loop, so I usually schedule it with Concord and Pleasant Hill stops, which keeps arrival windows tight even at the far end of the run.
  • Our estate is on propane. Do you bring LP-specific parts?
I bring the measuring tools to every valley call and confirm what the range actually needs before ordering. LP orifices and regulator parts are specific to the model and burner set, so the diagnostic visit establishes the exact spec and the quote lists each part in writing.
  • Any rebates for repair or replacement work right now?
Programs change often enough that I will not promise numbers in a web page. When we write your estimate, we confirm what is actually paying at estimate time and put anything that applies in the quote itself.
