Compressor short-cycling from around-the-clock shift schedules. Cafeteria kitchens serving three shifts a day do not give a Continental compressor the rest cycle it would get on a normal lunch schedule. That constant cycling wears start components early. I meter amp draw against the nameplate and replace the run capacitor or start relay before a full compressor failure takes the whole reach-in down mid-shift.
Condenser airflow blocked in tight industrial kitchen build-outs. A lot of the industrial corridor kitchens near Utah Avenue were built into existing warehouse space, and the Continental units often end up boxed in with minimal clearance. Dust and grease load the coil fast in that setup. I pull the coil, clean it properly, and check that there is enough clearance behind the unit for it to breathe.
Evaporator drain backups from steam-heavy catering prep. Catering kitchens running steam kettles and combi ovens put more humidity through the box than a standard reach-in sees, and that moisture load overworks the drain line. I clear the line, correct the pitch if it is holding water, and check that the defrost timer is actually clearing the coil on schedule.
