Common issues
Continental is a workhorse brand we don’t mind seeing on a service ticket. The build is solid, and a unit that goes down is almost always worth fixing instead of tossing. Kept up, a Continental runs a long time. When we do get the call, it is usually wear over the years rather than a design flaw.
Thermostat problems are the first thing that tends to go. The box runs warm or drifts off its setpoint once the thermostat fails. From $250 labor plus the part.
Refrigerant leaks show up after 15 to 20 years. Vibration and corrosion eventually open the sealed system. That is the heavier repair, and the one most general appliance techs aren’t equipped or certified to do. We are EPA-certified (EPA #1279674151528) and set up for it. A sealed-system rebuild runs up to $4000 with a 2-year warranty on the repair.
Door gaskets wear out when maintenance slips. A failing gasket pulls warm air in, runs the compressor flat out, and pushes the energy bill up. Replacing a worn one is among the least expensive jobs on the unit, and it spares the compressor a lot of needless run time. Leave it long enough and it takes years off the unit.
Commercial labor uses the same $250 base, but tight access, moving neighboring units, or a second tech can push it higher. The $75 service call is flat and includes full diagnostics. We quote before any work.
