South San Francisco built its name on the industrial flats and the biotech campuses down by the bay, Genentech and the rest of the Oyster Point and Southline corridor, but that is not where I find Zephyr hoods. Those show up in the residential streets above it, Sign Hill, Winston Manor, and Buri Buri, in kitchens that got remodeled sometime in the last fifteen years and picked a Zephyr island or wall hood to go with the new range.
The newer condo and townhome buildings that went up near the biotech corridor to house that workforce are a different story. Those kitchens are recent enough that the Zephyr units in them are almost always the touch or app-controlled models, and a Presrv wine or beverage cooler under the counter is common in the higher-floor units. I route South San Francisco with San Bruno, Daly City, and Millbrae, and I cover Brisbane on the same loop.

- Blower motor bearing wear on Sign Hill and Winston Manor hoods. Older remodels up on the hill are far enough along that the blower bearings start to wear, and the hood gets loud before it gets weak. Bearing wear, a failing speed-control board, and a wiring fault all sound similar from outside the hood, so I isolate which one it actually is before pricing anything.
- App pairing drops on new condo builds. Connected Zephyr hoods in the newer buildings near Oyster Point lose their app pairing after a power blip or a router swap, and reconnecting fails because the fault sits in the control module, not your Wi-Fi. I separate the two before ordering anything.
- Presrv wine cooler running warm. A dual-zone Presrv unit holds one side a few degrees off and the other fine, which usually traces to the evaporator fan on that zone or the thermistor reading it. I measure both zones before I quote so you know which side is actually failing.

More than people expect. The biotech and industrial side of town along the bay is not where the hoods are, but the residential hillside neighborhoods and the newer condo buildings built for that workforce both have them, and I get calls from both. -
Can you reach South San Francisco quickly, or is it an afterthought next to San Francisco proper?
It is its own stop on our route, not an add-on. My Peninsula technician works out of San Mateo County, and South San Francisco falls right inside that zone, grouped with San Bruno, Daly City, Millbrae, and Brisbane on the same days. -
