Those long duct runs in the Emerald Hills homes are where I find a stuck backdraft damper, the flap meant to close when the hood is off. Stuck open, outside air and duct grease smell can leak back into the house even with the fan off. Stuck shut, the hood loses pull and runs loud fighting the blockage. Downtown, on the smaller wall hoods, it is usually a dead touch panel or a remote that stopped talking to the receiver.

- Backdraft damper stuck open or shut. Long duct runs in the Emerald Hills estate homes are hard on the damper flap. Stuck open lets smell and outside air back in. Stuck shut kills the pull and makes the blower work loud against the blockage.
- Touch panel and remote receiver, downtown units. Older, smaller wall hoods near downtown lose the panel or stop responding to the remote. I check the receiver board before assuming the remote itself is dead.
- Presrv wine column compressor short-cycling. Short-cycling on a Presrv column usually traces to a condenser fan or a control board, not a worn compressor. I rule those out first since they're the cheaper repair.
