Only with the machine off and fully cool, with no pressure left in the boiler. Opening the cap on a hot Cremina can release steam and scalding water. The sight glass shows the level without opening anything.

What we repair on the bench.

Element that trips the breaker as it heats. An element can develop a path to ground well before it stops heating. The breaker, or a GFCI outlet, trips a few seconds into warm-up. We test the element's insulation as well as its resistance and replace it if it leaks current.
Thermal protection that cuts the heat. If the boiler runs low or the element overheats, the thermal protection opens and the machine goes cold until it is reset or replaced. We find out why it tripped, whether a low boiler or a pressurestat that failed to switch off, before we restore it.
Machine powers up but the boiler never warms. Power at the switch with a cold boiler points to a break in the heating circuit: a loose terminal, a burnt wire at the element or a pressurestat stuck open. We trace the circuit with a meter and repair the break itself.
